Hypnobirthing

Could hypnobirthing change how you feel about birth?

Would you like to approach the birth of your baby feeling calm, informed and quietly confident rather than anxious? A set of tools you and your partner can use together, in any room, on any day, whatever turn your birth takes?

That's what hypnobirthing offers — and it's taught here by a former NHS midwife.

What is hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is a complete antenatal preparation built around one simple idea: a relaxed body births more comfortably than a frightened one. When we are afraid, the body releases adrenaline, muscles tense and labour becomes harder work. When we feel safe, oxytocin flows and the body is free to do what it already knows how to do.

Through breathing techniques, guided relaxation, visualisation and self-hypnosis, you learn to switch off that fear response at will. Alongside the practice, we cover the physiology of birth in plain language, so that you understand your choices and can make confident decisions at every point.

This is not about a particular kind of birth. Whether you’re planning a home birth, a hospital birth or a caesarean, the techniques travel with you and help you feel steady and in control.

What the course covers

How the birthing body actually works

Deep relaxation and self-hypnosis practice

The role of the birth partner

Writing your birth preferences

Take-home audio recordings

Breathing techniques for each stage of labour

Releasing fear and previous birth experiences

Comfort measures, positions and movement

Staying calm if plans change

Preparing for the early days with your baby

What to expect

Courses are taught privately, just for you and your birth partner, so everything can be shaped around your questions and any previous experiences. Packages of two, three or four sessions are available, and all include take-home audio recordings and practice materials you’ll use right up to the birth.

Any time from around 20 weeks is ideal, but it’s never too late — even a couple of sessions close to your due date can make a real difference. Partners are warmly welcomed and play an important, practical role throughout.

With over 30 years in the NHS as a nurse and midwife, I’ve supported hundreds of families through birth. Sessions take place in my calm Seaford studio, online via Zoom, or in your own home locally.

Hypnobirthing with a midwife's perspective

With thirty years’ experience as a practising midwife, I’ve attended countless home and hospital births — and seen first-hand how much a woman’s mindset and preparation can shape her birth experience. This led me to train as a hypnotherapist, and later as a hypnobirthing practitioner using the Wise Hippo Programme.

I now work as a hypnotherapist, hypnobirthing practitioner, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) practitioner, bringing together my clinical midwifery background with these therapeutic approaches to support you in feeling calm, confident, and prepared for birth.

My hypnobirthing packages range from two to four sessions, tailored to what you need, and include relaxation and hypnosis meditations along with access to real birth videos to help you feel informed and reassured about what to expect.

Having supported women through birth from both sides — as a midwife in the room and now as a hypnobirthing practitioner preparing you for it — I bring a rare blend of clinical experience and therapeutic skill to help you approach your birth with confidence.

Client story

"I attended Wendy's hypnobirthing sessions which led to the incredibly positive experience of giving birth to my first child at home in 2019. I felt so empowered by the experience that I got in touch again with Wendy during my baby's first year, for an EFT session to address some anxiety I was experiencing, which I felt was holding me back from achieving my potential as an artist.

During our session, Wendy used Tapping techniques whilst we reapproached moments from the past. After this session I immediately felt more relaxed, and was able to take a fresh and focused attitude towards my career. Over the following years the positive and proactive approach encouraged by Wendy's sessions enabled me to achieve my career goals and have more confidence in my own capabilities.

Now expecting my second child, I have recently had several sessions with Wendy as a hypnobirthing refresher course and also EFT. These have been incredibly useful and her fantastic support, experience and techniques have helped me prepare for the changes ahead with renewed confidence. I know that in future times of emotional or physical difficulty I will reach out to Wendy for more sessions. Our sessions together have been transformational for me and I am very grateful to her."
