Hypnotherapy

Could hypnotherapy help you move forward?

Would you like to feel calmer in your own mind — less gripped by worry, less weighed down by the past, and more like the person you know you can be? A way of working that doesn't ask you to relive every difficult moment, but instead builds on what is already strong in you?

It's called solution focused hypnotherapy, and it works with the way your brain is naturally designed to change.

What is solution focused hypnotherapy?

Solution focused hypnotherapy combines modern neuroscience and positive psychology with the deep relaxation of hypnosis. Rather than digging endlessly into the problem, we spend our time together clarifying what you want more of in your life, and taking small, achievable steps towards it.

Each session has two parts. First we talk — a calm, structured conversation about what has been going well and what you’d like to change. Then you relax into trance: a natural, focused state, similar to daydreaming, that we all drift in and out of every day. In that state the mind is far more receptive to new patterns of thinking, and the brain gets a chance to process and file away accumulated stress.

You are in control throughout. Hypnosis is not sleep, and you cannot be made to say or do anything you don’t want to. Most people simply describe it as the most relaxed they’ve felt in a long time.

What it can help with

Trauma and difficult memories

Unwanted habits, including smoking

Public speaking and performance nerves

Stress and burnout

Phobias and fears

Weight and food-related patterns

Chronic pain management support

What to expect

Your first session lasts around 75 minutes and is all about getting to know you — who you are, what has brought you here, and what you’d like life to look like instead. Together we agree a realistic plan. Many issues shift within four to six sessions, and sometimes a single session is all that’s needed.

Where it’s helpful, I integrate EFT (tapping) so that you leave with a practical tool you can use between sessions and long after our work together ends. My background of over 30 years as an NHS nurse and midwife means I bring clinical understanding as well as genuine compassion to every appointment.

Sessions take place in my quiet home studio in Seaford, online via Zoom, or as a home visit within the Seaford area — whichever suits you best.

Solution Focused Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy

I trained in Solution Focused Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy with Within-Sight in Brighton, under Jill Wootton, and these two approaches form the foundation of how I work with clients.

Solution Focused Psychotherapy

Solution Focused Psychotherapy is a practical, forward-looking approach to talking therapy. Rather than spending a lot of time analysing the history or causes of a problem, we focus on what you want your life to look like once things improve, and on the skills, strengths, and resources you already have to help get you there. Sessions are collaborative: you’re the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you notice progress, clarify your goals, and build on what’s already working. Many people find this approach refreshingly quick and empowering, as it tends to be shorter-term than more traditional therapies.

Hypnosis

Hypnosis (or hypnotherapy) uses a relaxed, focused state of attention to help you access your own inner resources more easily. Contrary to the stage-hypnotism image many people have, therapeutic hypnosis isn’t about losing control — you remain fully aware and in charge throughout. It’s simply a state of deep relaxation and concentration that can help quieten unhelpful thought patterns, reduce anxiety, and support the changes you’re working towards, often alongside the solution focused conversation.

Combined, these approaches offer a gentle, practical, and future-focused way of working — designed to help you move towards the changes you want, at a pace that feels right for you.
